Lincoln Park

Lincoln Park is a borough located in Morris County, which is in the northeastern part of New Jersey. It has a population of 10,521, according to the 2010 United States Census. This small community was ranked at number 8 in New Jersey Monthly in 2008 as one of the Best Places to Live. Located nearby are several other small communities, including Wayne to the northeast, Fairfield and West Caldwell to the south, Totowa and North Caldwell to the southeast and Riverdale to the northwest. Newark is just over 14 miles to the south with Manhattan almost 20 miles away. Interstate 80 runs to the south while I-287 is along the northwestern side of the borough to provide for easy access to other communities within northern New Jersey.

Lincoln Park was named for President Abraham Lincoln in 1925. It has an elementary and middle school while high schoolers attend Boonton High School nearby. In fact, the majority of the students at the high school are from Lincoln Park. Residents can use the train service at Lincoln Park station and local bus service to access other boroughs for work or entertainment. Most of the residents choose to drive their own vehicle to work though. It is interesting to note that Lincoln Park’s claim to fame is William A. Mitchell who was born here. He was the inventor of Pop Rocks and Tang. Unemployment is slightly below the state average with retail jobs making up the majority of career opportunities in the borough. Residents can also find local jobs in technical fields, transportation and construction.

Approximately 49% of adult residents are currently married with another 12% either separated or divorced. Just under 17% of the residents are foreign born with the majority of them coming from Europe or Asia. Other residents have interesting lineages as well with ancestors from Ireland, Italy, Poland, England and Russia. Lincoln Park has just under 7 square miles with most of it being urban.
