Berkeley Heights is a small township located in the western portion of Union County, which is situated in the northeastern part of New Jersey. The population as of the 2010 United States Census was 13,183 with an area of just over six square miles for this township.

Berkeley Heights received the distinction of being named as Money magazine's 2013 Best Places to Live at number six, fulfilling its motto of "A Great Place to Live." Part of the township includes the historic remains of Deserted Village which is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It includes several buildings from the town's early days with homes and other businesses for the workers of a paper mill.

Surrounding Berkeley Heights are several small boroughs and towns, including Watchung to the southwest and Fanwood, Scotch Plains and Plainfield to the southeast. North Plainfield lies to the south while Mountainside is on the east. New Providence is just to the northeast along with Woodland Park. Union is also located to the east with Newark just 13 miles to the northeast and Manhattan another 11 miles further.
