Rahway

Rahway is a small city located in the southern part of Union County, which is in the northeastern portion of New Jersey. The population is 27,346, according to the 2010 United States Census. The city has seen an increase of over 7% in the last twenty years. It encompasses over six square miles.

The name of the city allegedly comes from the name of a tribal chief from the Lenni Lenape tribe. Rahway is home to some of the oldest buildings with the Merchants' and Drovers' Tavern from 1795. It also was one of the first towns to have a United States Post Office.

Located only 7 miles from Staten Island and 17 miles from Brooklyn, NY, Rahway is part of the New York metropolitan area. Several other small boroughs and towns surround the city, including Avenel to the south, Clark to the northwest and Linden and Roselle to the northeast. Colonia and Iselin lie to the southwest and Port Reading and Carteret are located to the southeast.

Just over 20% of the population is foreign born with the majority of people coming from Europe, Asia and Latin America.
