Roselle
Roselle is a borough located in the middle of Union County in New Jersey, which lies on the northeastern portion of the state. This community has a rich and interesting history. One of the most intriguing facts about the town is that it was the location of the first overhead electric lighting system in the world which was built by Thomas Edison. The first church to be powered by electricity was the First Presbyterian Church, which is still standing.
This borough has a total area of just over 2.5 square miles and a population of 21,085, according to the 2010 United States Census. Roselle Park lies to the northwest along with Kenilworth. To the east is Elizabeth while Cranford and Garwood are on the west side. Linden and Hillside are also located nearby with Union less than two miles to the northwest. Newark is less than seven miles with Brooklyn just over 16 miles away.
Almost one-third of the residents are first generation citizens with the majority of them coming from Latin America. Those who are native born have interesting ancestries, including West Indian, German, Irish, Italian and Sub-Saharan African. More of the adult population has never been married than those who are either married now or have been married in the past. Approximately 44% have never said "I do" while just over 40% are now married. Another 9% are either separated or divorced.
