Westwood
Westwood, New Jersey covers a little over two square miles in the mid-northern section of Bergen County. It's located approximately 9 miles northeast of Paterson, the nearest town of over 50,000, and twenty miles northwest of New York City. Emerson, Hillsdale, Washington Township, River Vale, Oradell, Harrington Park, Woodcliff Lake and Old Tappan are all communities that neighbor Westwood. The small borough is home to just over 11,000 residents, nearly 17% of who have emigrated from other countries. The newcomers hail mainly from Europe and Asia, while native-born residents trace their roots to Italian, Irish, German, Polish, English and Russian origin. About 57% of the borough's inhabitants are married, and another 6.2% have been divorced.
This little borough is known as the Hub of the Pascack Valley. Because it is located so close to New York City, many of the residents commute for work or for entertainment. The beginnings of the town largely consisted of trappers and hunters with their families. Westwood grew into a mill town with continued expansion once the railroad came in 1870. Today, the community is a bustling suburb of New York City with direct access to the Garden State Parkway. Westwood Train Station provides easy access to the rest of the area along with bus routes for public transportation. The downtown district features multiple restaurants and stores along with a movie theater. An ice rink offers fun year-round while concerts in the park provides entertainment during the summer. All of these activities, along with a community center, appeal to families to entice them to move to Westwood when they are interested in relocating.
